OK, you have been warned, this article comes with a cautionary warning. What you are about to read and see is beyond cute!

Spot On K9 Detection have just doubled our K9 workforce. Our amazing German Shepherd Rio has been joined by another pooch to increase our efforts in detecting bed bugs in homes, hotels and workplaces across the Lower Mainland.

Welcome to our latest weapon against bed bugs

Spot On K9 Detection has just welcomed a new member to our team - a black working breed German Shepherd puppy named Santo. Born on December 28th, 2022, Santo is only 8 weeks old but is already showing great potential to become a skilled K9 bed bug detector.

Bed bug dogs are rapidly being recognized as the most effect method of accurate detection

The use of dogs as bed bug detectors is a relatively new practice in Canada, however, Spot On K9 Detection's owner and main pest controller, Marcos was the first person in BC and Alberta to utilize this method. Canine bed bug inspection is becoming increasingly popular due to its high accuracy rate, with trained dogs able to detect bed bugs even in hard-to-reach areas. Utilizing dogs as bed bug inspectors is a unique approach, but it has proven to be highly effective in detecting bed bugs in residential and commercial spaces. Dogs have an exceptional sense of smell, making them a valuable asset in pest control.

The earlier the training, the better the detective he’ll become

Santo's training will begin in May when he turns 16 weeks old, where he will start behavioural and scent training. The training will be fun but challenging, and it is estimated to take 6-9 months for him to graduate and become a fully fledged K9 bed bug detector.

Puppies and children are fairly alike when learning

As with human children, one of the most significant challenges during the training process is teaching Santo to block out distractions. However, with patience and persistence, Marcos is highly confident that Santo will develop into an exceptional bed bug detector.

Bed bugs are a significant problem in highly populated centres such as Vancouver and the other cities in the Lower Mainland. That is why Spot On K9 Detection is committed to providing effective and efficient pest control solutions to our old and new clients alike.

Follow Santo's journey from cute bundle of fur to a fully trained bed bug detector

We will be providing regular updates on Santo's progress throughout his training, and of course some more adorable photos of our beautiful new boy.

If you suspect that your Lower Mainland home or business premise have bed bugs, please call Marcos on 7788556768 or message him via our contact form.

Groundhogs may look cute, but they can cause serious damage to gardens and foundations. If you're dealing with these pests, a rodent control service Toronto can help safely and effectively remove them. Professional pest control ensures they don’t return, protecting your property from further harm.
