Hello, my name is Marcos Michelet. I have been working in the pest control industry here in Vancouver for over 20 years and am incredibly proud to be the first person to offer K9 bed bug detection services in not only Vancouver, but the whole of BC and Alberta.
Around 15 years ago, I read a fascinating article about people who were getting great bed bug detection results with highly trained dogs overseas. So being an animal lover, I decided to invest my time and patience into Vegas, my fully trained bed bug detection beagle. Vegas was not only my best companion, he also detected bed bugs with his highly trained nose for over 13 years.
Off-the-shelf detection products unreliable
There are multiple products on the market to kill bed bugs, yet, only a handful aimed at detecting their presence.
After spending two decades in the pest control sector, I quickly came to realize that small number of products aimed at detecting the presence of bed bugs are all massively flawed and frankly a huge waste of money.
Monitors may trap some bed bugs, but they will not pinpoint their hiding location, and traps are even less reliable as no single bug may pass by and be caught.
Man's best friend, beg bug's worst enemy
Dogs are well known for their amazing sense of smell; up to 100,000 more acute than humans. They have long been used as sniffer dogs at airports to detect drugs and explosives and in the medical profession to detect illnesses such as cancer. Therefore, it is no-brainer that they can be trained to locate bed bugs.
Rio carnival time
Sadly, Vegas passed away a year ago, but his roommate Rio is still terrorizing bed bugs in the Greater Vancouver area. The joy she gets from getting to work in homes, offices, hotels and other properties is akin to seeing the masses samba dancing the capital streets of Brasil during the carnival.
